Found it. Why did you comment out this line in modules/Sitemap/index.php?

Code: switch ($op){   case 'Google': //    header('Content-Type:text/xml');

Once I removed the comment, it worked beautifully.

it's probably a leftover from troubleshooting, that I forgot to return to normal state before moving further. So, it was some CR/LF probably, we do not know which one because on this leftover

No problem. It didn't take long to find it.

Another thing I noticed - a local php.ini. Why? In your error log, there are output buffer errors. I think I added something to your mainfile that might address that, too. Keep checking the error log...

php.ini was provided by hoster by default.
errors are from the times when I did not know what output_buffering is, and I do check the log on daily basis
and thanks for that extra string - just in case my hoster decides to deny my local php.ini
