Quick question: If you submit a Sitemap to Google, does Google strictly crawl what is in the sitemap and never explores anywhere else on your site, or does it still browse around your site to find new links?

In other words, NukeSEO is limited by default to certain hard coded modules. I'm estimating that a sitemap would only be about 60% of my content because Web Links, PHP Manual, etc. are not in the sitemap.

Is it still worth submitting a sitemap, or should I just activate the module and let Google find everything?

I'm not sure I'd say it's "limited by default to certain hard coded modules." It comes with a set of content objects that match most distributions of PHP-Nuke. These can be disabled if you don't have that kind of content. You can add things to the sitemap simply by adding additional content objects. I hope to have a tutorial, along with additional content objects, up on the site soon.

I'm not sure why your web links aren't in the sitemap (they should be, unless you are using a replacement module for that). But I'd hate to think that links and the PHP manual are 40% of your content.

Assuming you don't have all the content objects you need, I'd suggest that it's still worth submitting a sitemap, since Google will look at the links on those pages and on your index page. It's better to have them in the sitemap, but Google can still find it.

Wow, I checked out your site - you have a LOT of stuff!

On the web links, I remember that we did not include a web links object. I guess I figured, "What is the point of showing links in the sitemap?" It should be easy enough to add and I will put it on the site as soon as possible.

It doesn't make sense to put a link on your sitemap to a link, right? However, I took the approach that it should at least show the links categories, even though there may be no links in that category. At least that gives the search engines something to look at (more content).

For the record, if you submit a sitemap to Google it will NOT use that exclusively. That is to say, it will not limi itself just to links in the sitemap.

The use of sitemaps is purely as an aid to make links easier to find and thus hopefully get then indexed more quickly, this is especially useful if you have deep linking or multi-level linking.

What about if the sitemap is veeeeeeeeeery long...

At the moment there is around 13.000 articles to my page,
during these 3 years i run it,
and all of them are displayed at the sitemap...

i guess that this is a problem for crawling, right?

Not necessarily. Google has a size limitation, but it's pretty large. Save your sitemap as a file on your computer to see if the size exceeds Google's limit.

If you are sure it exceeds the limit, you could modify the content object for news to use the date or some other attribute to limit the number of articles.
